The Kansas City Chiefs picked up a division clinching win against the Cincinnati Bengals on New Year’s Eve.
Cincy started with the ball and sustained a good drive before stalling and settling for a field goal. The Chiefs offense would come out strong on the opening drive going 7 plays and 75 yards to find the end zone. Thanks to a Mahomes pass to Isiah Pacheco. The Bengals would respond with a TD of their own. The next KC drive Mahomes would be pressured and stripped and it was recovered by the Bengals. This lead to another Bengals touchdown. The Chiefs would tack on 2 field goals before the half to cut the lead to 17-13 at half.
The Chiefs received the second half kickoff but went 2 and out. However, on the next Cincinnati drive they would go 74 yards before failing on 4th down and giving KC the ball back. KC would once again get in a groove offensively but would stall again and be forced to kick another field goal. This would cut the lead to 1. The following 3 Chiefs drives would have the same result and would put the Chiefs up 25-17. The KC defense came to play in the second half, especially in the last 6 minutes. In the last 6 minutes of the game Jake Browning would be sacked 5 times by the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs defense would preserve the 8 point lead to give KC the 25-17 win over the Bengals.
With the win the Kansas City Chiefs clinched the AFC West for the 8th consecutive year. With the win the Chiefs also now have the most division titles within the division. The Chargers, Raiders, & Broncos have 15, whereas the Chiefs now have 16.
