On Sunday the 6-7 Rams faced off against the 4-9 Commanders in Sofi Stadium. Two teams had a lot on the line, with the Packer’s loss earlier in the day the Rams had an opportunity to jump into the playoff picture with a win. For the Commanders a win would have been for Ron Rivera who needs to make his final case to the new ownership group on why he should stay the head coach of the commanders.
On the first drive, the Rams seemingly looked unstoppable on offense… until they got into the red zone and had to settle for a field goal. Very reminiscent of last week’s first drive. This was about all the action there was this quarter. The Ram’s defense looked dominant.
To start the second quarter we looked unstoppable again on offense until Kyren Williams decided to fumble the ball by their 10-yard line. Thankfully, the commander’s offense is a trainwreck and they went three and out. On the Ram’s next drive, we once again dominated but unlike the last few attempts we got in the endzone with Kyren Williams from one yard out. This will be the last time I say this but the commander’s offense really was just stagnant. They couldn’t get anything going in any phase of the game. Kyren fumbled again and the Rams were able to score three more points before the end of the half to be up 13-0.
To start the 3rd quarter fireworks came out. Stafford hit Kupp deep for a 62-yard touchdown. Not a single defender was within 20 yards of him. Not until 6:25 left in the third quarter was Sam Howell able to get points on the board, he hit Curtis Samuel from 19 yards out. In the fourth quarter they would end up taking Howell out of the game, he finished with 102 yards, 1 TD, and 1 int.
In the fourth quarter, the Rams inflicted the dagger with a 23-yard TD pass to Demarcus Robinson. The Rams successfully went for two with a 2 yard run by Kyren. Down by 21, the commanders decided to throw Jacoby Brissett in there. He ended up throwing two touchdowns on back-to-back drives. With the second TD, the extra point was blocked. They took so much time getting those touchdowns that it didn’t really matter in the end.
My synopsis:
To me, this game wasn’t as close as the final score lets on. If it wasnt for a few Kyren Williams miscues and our kicker it could have been up big on the Commanders. And we were up two touchdowns at the end of the game and it felt like the Rams were successfully conservative and held them off.
The Rams are a team on fire and there isn’t a better time of year to do so. Matthew Stafford at thirty-five years old is playing the best football he has ever played as a Ram. The only thing I believe can stop us is our kicker and possibly Kendricks. The Rams now control their own destiny.
