The New Orleans Saints[7-7] defeat the New York Giants[5-9] 24-6. Next week, the Saints travel to play the Rams while the Giants travel to play the Eagles.
1st Quarter: Giants Kicker Randy Bullock kicks a 56-yard field goal. Saints Quarterback Derek Carr throws a 7-yard touchdown to Wide Receiver Keith Kirkwood.
2nd Quarter: Giants Punter Jamie Gillan comes in for injured Kicker Randy Bullock and kicks a 40-yard field goal. The Saints lead at halftime 7-6.
3rd Quarter: Derek Carr throws a 23-yard touchdown to Tight End Juwan Johnson. Saints Kicker Blake Grupe kicks a 50-yard field goal.
4th Quarter: Derek Carr throws a 1-yard touchdown to Tight End Jimmy Graham. The Saints win 24-6.
Saints Notes:
Offense-This was the best the passing offense has been all year. Derek Carr threw for three touchdowns and completed more than 80% of his passes. Chris Olave was out for the game, Taysom Hill only saw 3 touches, and Alvin Kamara carried the ball only 16 times for 66 rushing yards. It seemed only Alvin Kamara could get going on the ground and could have seen more carries than he did. Jimmy Graham’s touchdown in the 4th quarter put him 15th all-time in receiving touchdowns. Derek Carr is spreading the ball around to everyone but nobody seems to be dominating. Nobody had more than 45 receiving yards and Rashid Shaheed led all wide receivers with 36 receiving yards. This was the Giants but the Saints clearly can do better
Defense-The defense was not doing great on option plays with Tommy DeVito running but they did only allow 24 rushing yards on 12 carries to running backs. The defensive line had their most impressive day in a while by getting to DeVito 7 times. The pass defense played solid enough but against the Giants they did what they were expected to do. I still would have liked to see an interception or more pass breakups.
Coaching-This was the best coached game by the Saints all year. Against an inferior Giants team they did everything I expected. I do know one thing, this game proved Pete Carmichael is in fact not the worst offensive coordinator in the league but he still is in the conversation for one of the worst.
