The Philadelphia Eagles[6-1] defeated the Miami Dolphins[5-2] 31-17. Next week, the Eagles travel to play the Commanders while the Dolphins host the Patriots.
1st Quarter: Eagles Kicker Jake Elliott kicks a 24-yard field goal. Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts is strip sacked by Dolphins Edge Rusher Bradley Chubb and the Dolphins recover at the Eagles 23-yard line. Dolphins Kicker Jason Sanders kicks a 40-yard field goal.
2nd Quarter: Jalen Hurts throws a 19-yard touchdown to Tight End Dallas Goedert. Jalen Hurts runs in a 1-yard touchdown on a QB sneak. Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throws a 27-yard touchdown to Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill. Eagles lead at halftime 17-10.
3rd Quarter: Jalen Hurts throws an interception returned by Dolphins Linebacker Jerome Baker for a 22-yard touchdown. Jalen Hurts throws a 14-yard touchdown to Wide Receiver A.J. Brown.
4th Quarter: Tua Tagovailoa throws an interception to Eagles Cornerback Darius Slay Jr. who gives the Eagles the ball at their own 17-yard line. Eagles Running Back Kenneth Gainwell runs in a 3-yard touchdown.
The Eagles won 31-17.
Eagles Notes:
Jalen Hurts ties a franchise record, held by Randall Cunningham, with 32 rushing touchdowns by a Quarterback.
Pass Offense-The play calls continue to be an issue. Jalen Hurts also seems to be playing like a shell of himself. He is robotic throughout the game but it feels like this is what Brian Johnson wants. This is a new offense for Hurts and he wants to adjust to what Johnson calls. Yes, Hurts could change up the call but if he does it too much it will show distrust to Brian Johnson. If Hurts changes up the play call and it does not work then everyone on the team could find distrust in Hurts so I think he is doing the right thing. Lane Johnson also allowed his first sack since 2020. The offensive line played the worst I have seen in two years.
Run Offense-The Eagles came out running to start the game but again Brian Johnson does not run enough. When the Eagles had the ball, with the lead, late in the game, there were too many pass plays and the fans at the stadium were getting agitated. Brian Johnson has the right play calls but does not understand when to use them.
Pass Defense-For playing against statistically one of the greatest offenses ever, and with a lot of injuries, the secondary played solid. There definitely was a missing piece at safety. Hopefully, Howie Roseman is on the phone with teams looking to trade their safety. Late in the game, the Eagles made a move by putting Cornerback Eli Ricks on Tyreek Hill and that was the smartest move I have seen the Eagles do all season. Jaylen Waddle was hurt but the Eagles were also without Reed Blankenship, Justin Evans, and Avonte Maddox. Both teams were hurt and both could have played even better. The one area that needs improvement is third-down defense because this game would not have been close if there were just two third-down stops.
Run Defense-Incredible. The Dolphins could not run at all in the game. This was the deciding factor of the game. At halftime, Miami had negative rushing yards. The whole defensive line dominated from start to finish. Nolan Smith got his first career sack. Jalen Carter was running over multiple linemen the entire game. Great game from everyone on the line.
