The Houston Texans[3-3] defeat the New Orleans Saints[3-3] 20-13. Next week, the Saints host the Jaguars while the Texans have a bye week.
1st Quarter: Saints Kicker Blake Grupe misses a 52-yard field goal. Saints Linebacker Zack Baun intercepts Texans Quarterback C.J. Stroud, fumbles the ball, and the Texans recover at their own 41-yard line. C.J. Stroud throws a 1-yard touchdown to Tight End Dalton Schultz. Saints Quarterback Derek Carr throws a 34-yard touchdown to Wide Receiver Rashid Shaheed.
2nd Quarter: Texans Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn kicks a 24-yard field goal. C.J. Stroud throws a 6-yard touchdown to Wide Receiver Robert Woods. Blake Grupe makes a 48-yard field goal for the Saints. The Texans lead at halftime 17-10.
3rd Quarter: Ka’imi Fairbairn kicks a 22-yard field goal for the Texans. Blake Grupe makes a 45-yard field goal for the Saints.
4th Quarter: Blake Grupe misses a 29-yard field goal. Derek Carr throws an interception to Cornerback Steven Nelson who gives the Texans the ball at their own 2-yard line.
The Texans won 20-13.
Saints Notes:
Derek Carr-Carr seems to be adjusting to the offensive play calls which is not good. The play calling, which I will get to later, is pushing Carr to make quick decisions but the issue is the routes that are designed to not get open quickly enough regardless of who is running the route. Carr will be better if the play-calling gets better.
Taysom Hill-This was a great game to see Hill’s receiving ability. 7 catches for 49 receiving yards was a very good performance for him. I wish he would have run the ball more but Carmichael seems to not understand when to use Taysom Hill.
Pete Carmichael-The weekly complaining of offensive play calling continues. I am convinced Dennis Allen might call better offensive plays. Saints fans and non-Saints fans all agree he needs to stop calling plays. There is no improvement each week. Even the game against the Patriots was not any better. It is time to move on before the players get frustrated and want to move on.
Secondary-Worst game in a while from the secondary. Even Marshon Lattimore was having trouble in this game. I hope this is a one-time thing because if this were to continue then the entire coaching staff would be on the hot seat very quickly.
Penalties-Along with Carmichael’s play calling, penalties are a weekly issue. There is no discipline at all on this team. Players are showing their frustrations on the sideline. Both sides of the ball have issues that continue to be unaddressed.
