#6 Penn State defeated Unranked University of Massachusetts 63-0. Next week, Penn State travels to play Ohio State while UMass travels to play Army.
1st Quarter: On the first drive of the game Penn State Wide Receiver Harrison Wallace III fumbles the ball and Defensive Back Tyler Rudolph recovers for UMass at their 32-yard line. Penn State Cornerback Daequan Hardy returns a punt 56 yards for a touchdown.
2nd Quarter: Penn State Quarterback Drew Allar takes a QB sneak 1 yard for a touchdown. Penn State Running Back Kaytron Allen runs in a 9-yard touchdown. Drew Allar throws a 7-yard touchdown to Tight End Tyler Warren. On a UMass punt, the ball touches Penn State Cornerback Cam Miller and UMass recovers at the 50-yard line. Penn State leads at halftime 28-0.
3rd Quarter: Drew Allar throws a 30-yard touchdown to Tight End Theo Johnson. Drew Allar throws another touchdown to Theo Johnson, this one from 18 yards out. UMass has started to put in some of their backups with around 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Daequan Hardy returned another punt for a touchdown with this one for 68 yards. The first time in Penn State history that a player returned multiple punt returns for touchdowns. Umass backup Quarterback Ahmad Haston throws an interception to Penn State Safety Keaton Ellis who returns it for a touchdown but an illegal block penalty on the return reverses the touchdown and gives Penn State the ball at the UMass 49-yard line.
4th Quarter: The Penn State backups come in to begin the quarter. Penn State Running Back Trey Potts runs in a 2-yard touchdown. Penn State Backup Quarterback Beau Pribula runs in a 31-yard touchdown. Penn State wins over UMass 63-0.
Nittany Lions Notes:
Outside of Daequan Hardy, nobody specifically dominated this game. Hardy deserves the starting punt returner job after this game. It was a great team effort from the offense, defense, and special teams. Drew Allar was solid. Every runner was dominating. The offensive line blocked great. The defensive line was unblockable. The secondary was lockdown. It was a great overall effort that needs to be repeated for next week’s game against Ohio State.
