Patriots Pre-Season Week 1 Review

The Pre-Season is a time of trial. We see the rookies get playing time and some younger guys who may pop. The Patriots may have lost this game however I think a few guys shined. There are three guys, who stood out in this pre-season game.

Keion White was a monster in the pass rush. He was pressuring the QB, he hit the QB, he made stops in the run game, and forced a fumble. He was regarded as a 1st round pick who went in the 2nd, and watching this game just shows you how true it is. What stood out to me is his size, sometimes it’s hard to tell a player’s size on a TV screen, but this man is a monster among men. 6’5″ 286, a 4.76 40 time. He was quick to the backfield and laid the lumber. When he forced the fumble it was like seeing a player getting hit by a truck. White could be a surprise candidate for defensive player of the year because how will you stop Judon, Uche, and White?

There was a lot of questions about who was going to replace Devin McCourty. Well with the game he had, I think Jalen Mills will do just fine. Mills was all over the field, from the slot to playing any safety role, he was there. He ended up with 3 tackles, a pass deflection, and INT this game. Mills seemed to have safety taken care of.

The only touchdown came from our rookie QB/WR. Malik Cunningham had a fantastic scamper for a 9-yard TD run. He threw for 19 yards, completing 3 passes on 4 attempts. He carried the ball 5 times for 34 yards and just looked like a possible QB1 candidate. It’s pre-season let’s calm down but it will be exciting to watch Cunningham in the future.

In the end the Patriots lost to the Texans

20-9
