The Maple Leafs only played 2 games this week but made the most of them, winning both against playoff contenders. Not much has changed in the standings department as Toronto continues to sit in a distant second place in the Atlantic with 88 points (40-17-8), 17 points behind the historic Boston Bruins. Here are the individual game recaps:
3/7:
TOR 4 NJD 3
This game was neck and neck going into the 3rd period, with the only goals of the game so far being scored by Jarnkrok (14) and Haula (6) in the second. Toronto opened the scoring in the 3rd with a beauty goal from Mitch Marner (23), the Devils quickly stormed back with Palat (8) and Haula (7) giving them a 3-2 lead. Toronto would later tie the game on a goal from Bunting (20) and just under 2 minutes later would get the game winning goal from Auston Matthews (29).
3/11:
EDM 4 TOR 7
It wasn’t pretty at first but the Leafs would come from behind on a 4 goal 2nd period to steal this one from the Oilers. Edmonton put up a good offensive showing with goals from Ekholm (6), Kane (10), McDavid (55), and Draisaitl (42) but Toronto’s offence just clicked in this one. Scoring for Toronto were: Acciari (12, 13), Marner (24), Tavares (29, 30), Nylander (34), and Matthews (30).
Toronto plays their first of 4 games this week Monday night at home against the Buffalo Sabres. The game is scheduled for 7:30PM ET.
