The Toronto Maple Leafs take care of business against teams lower in the standings, winning both games against the Blackhawks and the Canadians. The biggest event of the week took place late Friday night, with news breaking that the Maple Leafs acquired St. Louis Blues Captain Ryan O’Reilly. Here are the individual game results:
2/15:
CHI 2 TOR 5
This game got off to a fast start with Nylander (30) scoring the first goal of the game just 9 seconds into play. Chicago would tie it up just about 1 minute later, but after that it was all Maple Leafs. Chicago would score one more in the second, but Rasmus Sandin (4), Connor Timmins (2), John Tavares (24) and Auston Matthews (26) all scored to seal the game for Toronto. Ilya Samsonov made 27 saves to secure the win in net.
2/18:
MTL 1 TOR 5
Toronto came into this looking to win their first game against Montreal this season, and early in the second it looked like the struggles would continue with Montreal taking the lead. Thankfully that’s all Joseph Woll would allow, making 29 saves to pick up his first win of the season. Bunting (17, 18), Engvall (12), Nylander (31), and Kampf (5) all scored for Toronto, with newly acquired Ryan O’Reilly picking up his first point with Toronto in his first game with an assist in the second.
Toronto returns to action tonight at 6:00PM ET in Chicago to face the Blackhawks once again.
