The Kansas City Chiefs continued their winning ways over the Broncos! With the win, the Chiefs are tied for 3rd all-time for most consecutive wins against a division opponent.
The Chiefs started on defense and forced the Broncos to punt on their first drive. The Chiefs would drive down and pound the ball into the end zone with Pacheco. However, on the PAT there was a bad snap and Townsend had to run with it but didn’t get anywhere. Both teams would trade punts before the Broncos got on the board with a 49-yard FG from McManus. The Chiefs would try to answer and drive the ball all the way down to the Denver 10-yard line but Mahomes would throw a pick in the end zone. The interception didn’t hurt the Chiefs’ defense because they forced a punt. However, on the punt return, Toney would be stripped and it was recovered by Denver. This allowed them to have a 1 play touchdown drive to take the lead. The Chiefs would respond with a TD of their own when Mahomes hit McKinnon for the touchdown reception. The KC defense would force a fumble and this allowed them to try a long field goal before the half, but Butker would shank it. So the Chiefs had a 13-10 lead at the half.
The 2nd half would start with 3 combined punts before the Broncos found the end zone to regain the lead. The following 2 drives would end in punts. The Chiefs finally got moving and drove 65 yards for a touchdown, this time Mahomes hitting Blake Bell from 17 yards out. On the Broncos’ possession, Wilson would be picked off by Sneed setting up KC with an excellent field position. They would capitalize by finding the end zone to take a 10-point lead. The Broncos answered the KC TD with one of their own to cut the lead to 3. The Chiefs would have to punt and give Denver the ball back with plenty of time to tie or win the game. The Kansas City defense would stiffen and turn the Broncos over on downs thanks to a Chris Jones 4th down sack. The Chiefs were able to kill the last 1:19 of the game to squeak out a 27-24 win against their division foes.
With this win the Chiefs stay alive in the hunt for the #1 seed. So one time, and one time only… Who Dey!
