Brock Purdy set a new record, becoming the first rookie quarterback to beat Tom Brady in his first NFL start.
The Buccaneers came out looking okay, but that quickly went downhill, connections were overlooked, they couldn’t protect Brady, (apologies for Al-Shaair ) and though the defense did okay it just wasn’t enough.
The 49ers had their stuff together, Purdy was hitting receivers left and right, while under pressure and sometimes with little safe time in the pocket, even running for a TD himself. His favorite (or safest) targets seem to be Kittle and CMC. He threw one interception which was overturned with a penalty. I would say the kid has definitely outlived his “Mr. Irrelevant” days, just one game in. He is dealing with an oblique injury which he’s getting an MRI for today, but it’s not expected to have any effect on Thursdays game.
CMC did it yet again, rushing for 119 yards with a rushing TD and receiving for 34 yards with a touchdown, he can’t be stopped! I just hope he keeps up this healthy streak.
Deebo, unfortunately, ended up being carted off the field just before half time with what looked like significant injury, fortunately, and I say that lightly, it looks like a high ankle sprain, though he’ll go for further testing over the next few days. Still, he will most likely miss the rest of the regular season. I’m not really sure what Kyle was thinking running him up the middle when we were up so many points and the Bucs had yet to score, but here we are.
The defense was phenomenal, getting one interception and one fumble. They definitely had Brady rethinking coming out of retirement I would say. They managed to keep Tampa Bays offense to one score at the end of the game. Though some are saying the refs kept them out, but let’s be real, even if you did get the “missed calls” and the refs didn’t flag you on the calls that were very much legitimate, do you really think that would’ve bought you out of a 35-7 game?
Let’s hope we keep this energy during the short turnaround time for the game against the Seahawks Thursday!
