The 123rd Army-Navy game. Coming into today’s game Navy leads the series 62-53-7. This is a game that won’t have huge passing plays, and both teams will run the ball more than anything. As always GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY! Sing Second! Let’s take a look at how the halves went.
The first half was dominated by both defenses. The Army racked up 33 total yards, they missed on a couple of passes that had they hit would have done wonders for Army. The Navy offense has been able to move the ball, but the Army defense has made key stops when they needed to. The Navy held onto the ball for 22 minutes and had a total of 111 yards. The biggest play of the half came with 1:06 left and Army blocked a Navy punt and scored a TD off of it. The game went into half 7-3 Army.
In the third quarter, the ball was held by the Army for over 10 minutes. They were able to move the ball on offense, outgaining their whole first half in 1 quarter alone. They were driving towards a score when the center decided to play his own game. Two terrible snaps and Army had to punt, right after the punt Navy scored on a 77-yard run.
Army defense was able to stop the Navy offense in the 4th quarter, it also helped that the Navy QB was banged up and not able to run as much. Army finally opened up the passing game. They completed 1 pass for 26 yards then they were able to draw a few Pass Interference calls. Army was able to kick a game-tying field goal. For the first time in the series’ history, this game will go into Over Time.
The first play in OT and Army takes it to the house and makes the all-important extra point. Navy answers with a passing TD on their first play and they make their Extra Point. We will now go to Double OT. On the Navy’s drive in double OT they fumbled on the 1-yard line and Army recovered. Army kicked a Field Goal to win the game in Double OT. After stopping the 14-game win streak of the Navy, Army has won 5 of the last 7. While the first half left a lot to be desired by Army, they played better on offense in the second half. Today we got to Sing Second!!! GO ARMY!! BEAT NAVY!!
