Detroit and Husso Have a Horrible Week

Monday brought the Toronto Maple Leafs to LCA, in a matchup against two of the original 8.

Young rising Defenseman Moritz Seider scored first for the Wings about five minutes in, and then Toronto took over as Ville Husso gave up four goals on only 13 shots. He was pulled a little over eight minutes into the second period for backup goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic. Alex did a fine job stopping all 12 shots he faced.

However, the Wings just could not climb out of the hole they dug for themselves. Adam Erne had a late goal but it wasn’t enough to beat the Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs – 4

Red Wings – 2

Three Stars:

1. Moritz Seider (1G/1A)

2. Alex Nedeljkovic (12 Saves)

On Wednesday, Buffalo came to town to face our Red Wings.

Detroit jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game when Jonatan Berggren got one past Buffalo goaltender Craig Anderson.

From that point, the Sabres scored four unanswered goals as Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic had no way of stopping the offensive onslaught, and were down 4-1 after two periods.

In the third, David Perron and Oskar Sundqvist tied the game at four in just under six minutes. Sundqvist scored twice in the second. After overtime, there was no winner so the game went to a shoot-out, with Buffalo’s Jack Quinn being the only player to put the puck in the net giving Buffalo the win.

Red Wings – 4

2. David Perron (1G)

Saturday saw the Vegas Golden Knights come to town.

Ville Husso was back between the pipes after being pulled Monday night. However, he is still trying to figure things out during this mini-slump because he gave up four goals and the Wings lose 4-1.

The scoring for Vegas started early with a Jack Eichel goal just over one minute into the game. Detroit’s lone goal came on the power play by Oskar Sundqvist but the Wings just had no answer tonight.

Golden Knights – 4

Red Wings – 1

Three Stars:

1. Oskar Sundqvist (1G)

2. Dylan Larkin (1A)

Detroit (11-7-5), and Ville Husso specifically, had a very tough week. They also now have to figure out how to replace Tyler Bertuzzi who went down for at least 6 weeks due to wrist surgery.

Next week the Wings are on the road all next week visiting Columbus, Florida, Tampa, and finally Minnesota next Saturday.
