The Wings traveled to Buffalo on Monday to take on the Sabres. Starting in net for Detroit was Alex Nedeljkovic, and Red Wings fans know what that means. That’s right he gave up a ton of goals, 8 to be exact.
Captain Dylan Larkin, David Perron, and Olli Maatta scored the Wings three goals.
As said in an earlier weekly recap, Nedeljkovic is not the goaltender for the Wings and they need to just name Villi Husso as the starter. Just look at their numbers comparison:
Nedeljkovic: .871 SV% and 4.96 GAA
Husso: .941 SV% and 1.86 GGA
The numbers speak for themselves. I mean does anyone disagree here?
Red Wings – 3
Sabres – 8
Three Stars:
1. Dylan Larkin (1 goal)
2. David Perron (1 goal)
3. Olli Maatta (1 goal)
On Thursday, the Red Wings were back in the friendly confines of LCA to take on the Washington Capitals.
With Villi Husso between the pipes, this was a completely different outcome than Monday’s game.
After a scoreless first period, future Hall of Famer Alex Ovechkin got one by Husso. the Wings got a power play goal from Lucus Raymond to tie it up through two.
In the third, the Red Wings put the game away with two goals by Andrew Copp and Captain Dylan Larkin. Husso just completely shut down the Capitals to pick up his fifth win of the season.
Capitals – 1
Red Wings – 3
Three Stars:
1. Villi Husso (33/34 SVs)
2. Dylan Larkin (1G/1A)
3. Andrew Copp (1G/1A)
On Saturday night the New York Islanders came to LCA. The Islanders came into Detroit looking to score some goals against Husso, and they did not make that happen. Husso stopped all 24 shots he faced in the contest, snapping New Yorks’ 5 game-win streak.
After a scoreless first period, the Wings got on the board when Lucas Raymond scored his second power play in as many games to put the Wings up 1-0. Then later in the period, Pius Suter scored a short-handed goal, putting the Wings up 2-0.
In the third, Husso continued his shutdown goaltending and the Wings added another goal for good measure when Dominik Kubalik scored about halfway through the period.
Islanders – 0
Red Wings – 3
Three Stars:
1. Villi Husso (24 SVs)
2. Lucas Raymond (1G)
3. Dominik Kubalik (1G/1A)
The Red Wings (6-3-2 14 points) finding themselves in third place in the Atlantic Division has been a surprise, to be honest. EVP and GM Steve Yzerman has put together a completely different team than we ha e seen recently and Head Coach Derek Lalonde has the team playing well. It’s early, but we appear to be headed in the right direction.
