This game was a grinding 4 hours and 57 minutes. Going down as the longest no-scoring game in MLB postseason history.
After 15 long innings, Oscar Gonzalez finally closes the door with a walk-off solo shot off of Corey Kluber. I’d like to give a huge congratulations to the Guardians, as they got the grit to compete.
As in game 1, the bats for the Rays were non-existent. Tyler Glasnow threw an amazing game for only pitching 2 limited starts in the regular season. Throwing for 5 innings, 2 H, 5 K’s, 0 ER, and no walks. In my eyes, he looks better than he was before his surgery. One of the most disgusting curveballs in the major leagues. As the script stays the same, he got no production from the bats just as McClanahan had endured in Game 1.
The Rays left 19 on base and struck out 20 times in this elimination game. Can’t win a game if you can’t get runners across the plate. These numbers were similar for the Guardians as well, as they struggled against the arms we have. This series was completely defined by taking advantage of the limited mistakes by both pitching staffs.
The Guardians will go on to face the Yankees in the ALDS. And the Ray’s will head home once again to try to figure things out for next year.
