Bats for the Phillies were unable to do much of anything for 8 innings and only 2 hits to account for anything. Zach Wheeler’s pitching kept the Phillies in the game for 6 1/3 innings until Jose Alvarado came into the game in the 7th. Alvarado proceeded to allow a 2-Run Home Run to Pinch Hitter Juan Yepez. The Cardinals lead 2-0 in the top of the 9th and are 93-0 when leading by +2 runs after the 8th inning throughout the team’s postseason history…until today. J.T. Realmuto, Bryce Harper, and Nick Castellanos load up the bases. Alec Bohm gets a hit-by-pitch bringing 1 run in. Jean Segura gets a 2-Run RBI Single to take the lead. Bryson Stott with a fielder’s choice single brings in a run. Brandon Marsh brings in an RBI single. Finally, Kyle Schwarber hits a sacrifice fly and the Phillies enter the bottom of the 9th with a 6-2 lead. Cardinals fans begin leaving the game before the inning begins. Nolan Arenado scores off of a Nolan Gorman single but that’s not enough as the Phillies complete the comeback and win 6-3 in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Round against the Cardinals.
