The Brewers win their season finale! Winning 2 out of 3 games to the Diamondbacks. The Brewers ended with a 86-76 record, 2nd in the NL Central. The Diamondbacks ended with a 74-88 record, 4th in the NL West.
Game 1 Monday, October 3rd
Diamondbacks 5 @ Brewers 6
W: Boxberger 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K
L: Moronta 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB
What a game! Back and forth starting in the 2nd inning. With a walk-off hit from Renfroe in the 10th to win it for the Brewers! Not to mention yet another gem pitched by the “big woo” Woodruff. Unfortunately for the Crew, the Phillies won their game too. Meaning the Brewers’ playoff dreams are over. A hard pill to swallow but I would say it was much needed after the overall season.
Game 2 Tuesday, October 4th
Diamondbacks 0 @ Brewers 3
W: Lauer 6.0 IP, 4 BB, 7 K
L: Gallen 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6 K
S: Strzelecki 1.0 IP
Mitchell and Urìas both had the hot bat, and both hit solo home runs to get the game going. After that, it was up to Lauer to pitch another gem for the Crew and seal the victory.
Game 3 Wednesday, October 5th
Diamondbacks 4 @ Brewers 2
W: Poppen 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER
L: Gott 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 K
S: Ginkel 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 K
The Brewers had the lead going into the 9th off the bats of Taylor and Tellez. The Diamondbacks however had more gas in the tank, blasting out two more home runs to win the game.
Let’s not forget, congratulations to Corbin “King in the North” Burnes for leading the national league in strikeouts, ending with 243 Ks!
Now time to refocus and get ready for a new season. I’m interested to see what changes may come and am hopeful for the future of the Brewers. Especially some of the young up-and-coming talent that are currently making their way through the minors.
