The Royals drop extended series to the Guardians

The Royals wrapped a disappointing season dropping 4 of 6 to the Guardians and finishing the year with a 65-97 record and finishing 5th in the AL Central.

9/30- KC: 3 CLE: 6 The Royals looked good early taking a 2-0 lead on a Drew Waters 2-run homer. They extended to lead in the 5th with a solo shot by Michael Massey to take a 3-0 lead. But 6 unanswered runs by the Guardians were too much for Kansas City and they dropped the game 6-3.

10/1- KC: 7 CLE: 1 The Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 4th and then added another run in the 6th. Cleveland would score a run of their own in the 6th but a run in the 7th and 8th by the Royals put it away and gave them the win. Kris Bubic pitched well after he struggled most of the season. Bubic went 5.0 inning and struck out 8 while giving up 0 runs.

10/2- KC: 5 CLE: 7 The Royals found themselves in a huge hole early. They gave up 1 in the first and 6 in second. The early 7-0 deficit was just too much for the Royals to overcome. Kansas City showed some fight but cutting the lead to 7-5 in the 8th but that would end up being the final.

10/3- KC: 5 CLE: 2 Neither team could build any sort of lead and it went into the 10th inning tied at 2. Drew Waters would come up to the plate with 2 runners on and hit a 3-run homer in the 10th t take the 5-2 lead, this would end up being the final. Drew Waters ended up driving in 4 of the Royals’ 5 runs in this game.

10/4- KC: 3 CLE: 5 Another big inning by the Guardians cost the Royals. The Royals allowed 5 runs to cross the plate in the 5th inning. The Royals would then score a run in the 8th and 9th to cut the lead to 5-3 but that was all they could do.

10/5- KC- 2 CLE: 9 This game was just ugly from the 1st inning on. Another big inning by the Guardians, this time a 4-run first to go up 4-1 early, and they never looked back. The Guardians ended up plating 9. This game was pretty much a summary of the whole season for Kansas City.

For the Royals, their pitiful season is finally over with them finishing 5th in AL Central with a 65-97 record. One of the very few bright spots for the Royals was they didn’t lose 100 games.

The Guardians wrapped up their season by finishing 1st in the AL Central with a 92-70 record. They will host the Tampa Bay Rays in the 3-game wildcard series.
