Blue Jays sweep the Red Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays take all 3 games against the Boston Red Sox in the Rogers Centre. The Jays now finish with a 16-3 record against the Sox this season. The sweep also brings the Jays overall record to 90-69 while the Red Sox fall to 75-84.

Game 1: BOS 0 TOR 9

WP: Manoah (16-7 2.24) LP: Pivetta (10-12 4.56) SV: Kikuchi (1)

This game, much like the rest of the series, was all Blue Jays. Toronto’s offence jumped on Sox starter Pivetta early, scoring 4 runs in the first 3 innings. The Jays held that 4-0 lead until the 6th when they broke it wide open with a 4 run frame to make it 8-0. The Jays would add one more in the 8th and held the 9-0 lead until the end.

Game 2: BOS 0 TOR 10

WP: Stripling (10-4 3.01) LP: Bello (2-8 4.71)

Much like game 1, this was all Toronto once again. Toronto started the scoring in the first 3 innings once again, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after the 3rd. The Jays would add 3 more in the 5th and 3 more in the 8th to make it 10 runs on 21 hits.

Game 3: BOS 3 TOR 6

WP: Pop (4-0 2.77) LP: Wacha (11-2 3.32) SV: Romano (36)

This was the only somewhat close game in the series. Boston jumped out to an early lead this time with 2 runs in the second but that didn’t last long as the Jays held a 5-2 lead at the end of 4. Both teams traded a run each in the 7th, but Romano slammed the door in the 9th for his 36th save of the season.

Next up the Jays will head to Baltimore to face the Orioles (82-77) for the final 3 games of the regular season, while the Red Sox will head back to Fenway to close out the season with 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays (86-73).
