Packers outlast the Patriots in OT 27-24

The Patriots started with the ball after the Packers won the toss and deferred. The Patriots started strong with 23 yards on the ground and Hoyer went 3 for 3 until 3rd and 10, he threw a pass too high for Hunter Henry and the Patriots took 3.

Aaron Rodgers connected with Allen Lazard on his first pass for 23 yards, on his second pass of the day to Romeo Doubs is fumbled and recovered by Patriots 4th-round pick Jack Jones at the Green Bay 49.

The Patriots weren’t able to make anything off the turnover, 6 plays get them six yards, and Rashan Gary is the hero of the Packers that defensive drive after getting an 8-yard sack. The Patriots’ punt ends up a touchback, and the Packers took over at the 25. Hoyer went to the medical tent after this drive, and rookie QB Bailey Zappe started warming up.

The Packers had a 5-play 34-yard drive and punted with 2:31 left in the game. The Patriots then stalled having a three and out with a false start to start the drive. On the tackle on the punt, Brendan Schooler (41) was called for a horse collar tackle.

The drive started with a ten-yard run by Aaron Jones, then a 5-yard run to end the 1st quarter. Four plays later Christian Watson rushed for a 15-yard touchdown.

With Hoyer ruled out for the game rookie Bailey Zappe came back out to lead the Patriots.

Both teams traded punts 4 drives in a row. The punt fest ended when Rashan Gary made a play on Zappe getting the strip sack and recovery at the Packers’ 31.

Rodgers and company came out on their own 31 with 54 seconds on the clock, Rodgers threw an incompletion and scrambled for one yard before he threw a pick-six to rookie Jack Jones. This was Jack Jones’ first career INT and who better to pick off than Aaron Rodgers? This was also only the 2nd time Aaron Rodgers had a pick-six at home in 3511 pass attempts and it was the first time the Patriots picked him off in 110 passes. At halftime, the Patriots led 10-7.

The Packers came out with possession to start the 2nd half. They had a long 10-play 81-yard drive in which the Patriots had them at 4th and 1 but it was converted with a long 17-yard run by Aaron Jones. This drive was capped off by a 20-yard TD from Rodgers to Tonyan.

The Patriots came on starting at NE 25 after a holding penalty on the kickoff. The Patriots then led a huge drive, 7 plays 75 yards, and capped off Bailey Zappe’s first career passing TD to DeVante Parker (25 yards).

The Packers then had an 8-play drive for 59 yards and capped it off with a field goal to tie the game. Aaron Rodgers almost got the Patriots with 12 men on the field but Belichick ran down the sideline to get the timeout before the ball was snapped, sending Crosby out to kick.

This Patriots’ drive started with a big return to the Patriots’ 35-yard line (38-yard return). The Patriots take it for a 7-play 66-yard drive, in which they rushed it 6 times for 45 yards, and Bailey Zappe had a nice 21-yard pass to Agholor. The Patriots ended the drive with a Damien Harris rushing TD making the score 24-17 Patriots.

The Packers march back out with 11:14 left in the clock. They had two third downs but in the end, Doubs caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers. This was Rodgers’ 500th career Passing TD (Reg. and post-season).

The Packers forced a three and out after a big sack by Gary. The Patriots punt it and the Packers get amazing field position with 3:50 to go.

It looked good at first for the Patriots, forcing a 3rd and 6 but a DPI penalty by Myles Bryant gave the Packers the first down. On a 3rd and 8, Rodgers passed it to Doubs and it was an amazing effort but in the end, it was incomplete. The Packers punt it and down it at the 2.

At the 2-yard line, the Patriots have possession with 1:52 left in the game. The Patriots couldn’t do much but punt it and leave the Packers with 4 seconds left to score. The Packers throw it short and the game does into OT.

The Packers start with the ball in overtime, at their 25-yard line after a touchback. Both teams go 3rd and out. The Packers’ next drive was the game-winner. The Patriots couldn’t stop them.

Well, I expected the loss but I didn’t expect it to be this close. Bailey Zappe stepped in and did what he could. The offense is still looking lackluster at times I feel like Patricia doesn’t know the forward pass is a thing. The Patriots will host the Lions next week at 1 PM as they drop to 1-3. Packers win 27-24.

As I am doing for every loss this season, $10 will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Total Raised: $55
